Your personal news feed is a continuous conversation between you and your Google Assistant. The built in functionality and additional features include:
o Select a topic to be updated – You choose what to be updated on your news feed. For example, I might choose Sports, Health, Education or Crime. Once you’ve chosen a topic, you’ll be able to see all the updates pertaining to that topic. This is similar to what you see in many news portals, however it’s been made very easy for you in Google. This way, you can easily manage multiple topics all being updated on your personal news feed.
o Replacing words with relevant terms – Many news companies are shifting their focus to local/articles/ geographically related news. For example, if you were looking for education news, instead of searching for “school news” you might just type in “academia” or “education”. This feature makes it very easy to manage all your feeds from different sources. This can save you time and effort by only accessing the news sources that are most relevant to your needs.
o Easy access to your feeds – If you’re like me, who has a lot of news apps and add-ons installed on your phone, this is one of the best features on this device. Not only does this feature allow you to go straight to the news source you want, but you don’t even have to go to the Android Market to do it. Just go to Google and search for the news app you’re interested in (for instance, if you have a news app for the NYC area, you don’t even have to go to the Play Store to find it). From there, you can tap on the “AP” icon to instantly download the latest news updates. This is great if you have multiple news sources you want to update regularly.
o Searching for specific news items you’re interested in – Another major advantage of the Google News app is the ability to search specifically for news items you’re interested in. You can enter specifics into the search box for what you want to know and this will pull up news related to that topic. This makes it very easy to keep up with local, national, and global news. You can easily scroll down to read the full article or press on the title to jump to specific details.
While these are the biggest news update features currently available, there are several new things being added constantly to the Google News app. New releases are coming out every month so it’s important to stay on top of the news and what’s going on in your area. You never know when something is going to happen before it does, so it’s always important to be prepared. By having the right tools and features, you can ensure you always have the news you want.
